World Championships 2006

We are pleased to announce new features for the 2006 version of the World Championships:

1) In order to support efforts made by national federations and give more importance to national tournaments, national champions (1 man, 1 woman) are automatically qualified, so that every member country has a chance to be represented.

Note that male national champions of countries already represented and all female national champions do not get financial support for travel and accommodation from ITSF, they can however ask for support from their own national federation.

2) Also new in 2006: the Top 1 in Open Men Singles in ITSF International Tournaments is automatically qualified

3) Following a request made by many of you, we are introducing Doubles in the World Championships. National champions of ITSF member countries will represent their country in the Doubles competition.

Note that players entering the Doubles competition do not get financial support for travel and accommodation from ITSF, they can however ask for support from their own national federation.

Names of national champions (Singles and Doubles) have to be provided by July 31, following national events in each country retricted to national players.

Note that the 2006 World Ranking will consist in the ranking of the players results over the prededing 12 months (so for the World Championships: the period from November 2005 to October 8, 2006). It will be updated every week.
