Changes in North American tournaments
An exceptional decision was taken yesterday, February 27th, by the ITSF Executive Committee, regarding a change of tournaments in Canada. On February 6, we had agreed to a request made by Mr Adam Imanpoor on behalf of the Canadian Table Soccer Federation (CTSF).
They had asked that the ""Cup of Foosball"" tournament, taking place in Nepean, Ontario, on February 11-12, be taken out of the ITSF Tour as it clashed with their procedures related to selecting one of their players to sit on the ""Canadian National Team"" for the World Cup.
That request came as a consequence of a long selection process during which they did not foresee that problem until the last minute.
They suggested that another tournament, ""Foosapaloosa"", taking place in Calgary, Alberta, on April 7-9, could replace the Ontario event, under the same conditions (Pro-Tour on Tornado).
However, since it was a very late request (the Nepean tournament taking place 2 weeks after the original request was made), some players (American and Canadian) who had already seen the tournament in the Tour calendar on the ITSF website went to the tournament under the assumption that points were to be awarded towards the ITSF rankings.
As the quota has already been reached for tournaments in North America, and in order not to jeopardize all the efforts of CTSF to make up their World Cup Team, the following solution was submitted to the vote of the Executive Committees members who approved it by a majority of votes:
""For any players who compete in both events (the Ontario Cup of Foosball and the Calgary Foosapalooza), only their highest position/points will count towards the ITSF ranking"".
Note that this is a truly exceptional decision and that in the future any request for a change will be submitted to the rules as set forth in the ITSF Statutes.
Also note that a change in US tournaments was also submitted to the Executive Committees vote on February 3, who approved it by a majority of votes:.
The U.S. Open (May 4-7) has been taken out from the ITSF Tour and replaced by the following tournament in the same category (Master Series) and on the same table (Tornado):
$25,000 IFP Kentucky State Championships
Tournament Date - August 3 - 6, 2006
Holiday Inn North
1950 Newtown Pike
Lexington, Kentucky
40511 USA
Hotel # 1-859-233-0512
Point of Contact: Mary Moore
Tel: 1-859-268-8502
Email: ifpfoos@aol.com>
Reason for the change: the North Carolina hotel backed out of signing a contract at the last minute, and no other acceptable hotels were found in that area for an event that size.
